Bluewater Outriggers Fishing Report 6-05-2026
It’s been an exciting fish-filled week here in Port St. Joe, Florida. At the moment, I’m finding it a bit hard to concentrate with all the racket being made outside of my office. I asked Shaydon, “What in the world is going on?” and he informed me that they were getting organized for the fourth of July sale that will soon be upon us. With all the fishing rods and gear I see them moving around, I’m sure it be a good one; so make sure you make yourself available for the event. I also just received a text message from Captain Jake that he agreed upon my terms for a friendly wager this evening when we head to the MB canal to catch pinfish. Why are we catching pinfish? You might ask. We are preparing for the Bluewater employee fishing trip that has kindly been bestowed upon us from the owners of the store. It’s sure to be a blast and I greatly look forward to bringing you all the juicy details in next week’s report. I will also let you know the results of what I am dubbing tonight’s Pinfish Pro-Am with Captain Jake “The Legend” Harpe and Jeremiah “Pinfish” Payne. Ol’ boy had better bring his wallet!
Inshore fishing this last week has been more of the same. I’m still catching red fish and trout in the intracoastal waterway but rather than throwing artificials, I’ve taken advantage of all the live bait that seems to be around in mass numbers. They really seem to like those 1.5”-2” pinfish I rig on a #1 Owner circle hook. On Wednesday evening I ran into a nice gentleman named Leland. He eventually asked if I was the one who wrote the fishing reports, supposedly I was not recognizable at first. It was my towheaded, ever-speaking youngster that he recognized from the articles and photos. Leland informed me that he had been doing well there under the bridge, especially on the morning bite and that he too was catching some good redfish and trout. I’d like to say to Leland, it was a pleasure to have met you and thanks for letting the boy and I join in on the fishing for a bit.
For those going offshore this last week, the conditions were less than ideal, to say the least. Not only did anglers have to contend with rough waves, but the current was pulling something fierce. Dropping 6–8-ounce leads was out of the question, and many folks came in the store to buy the heavy 12 ouncers. Despite the conditions, there were a few that went out there and made it happen. One such angler was Stevie Sewell. He went with a crew out to a whopping 700’ and got the nice Yellowedge seen (above left). Coming into a depth of 240’ he yanked in the big snapper seen (above right). “Uncle” David Payne and his crew Bobby Everett, Steve Sewell and Cliff Collins can be seen (above center) with a hard- earned mess of fish they were able to catch before the weather turned bad.
That’s it for this week, folks! I’m off to the store to buy some secret gear for tonight’s fishing contest with Captain Jake and to prepare for the Bluewater Outriggers employee fishing excursion! I hope you have a wonderful week and get in on the action going on all around us. I hope to see you out there!
