BlueWater Outriggers Fishing Report 9-25-2025
Walking into the office this morning I passed fellow employee Paige Sellers.  The normal pleasantries were exchanged; there was no hot gossip nor was there any pressing issues that required attention at Bluewater Outriggers.  We both went on our way, having reached the conclusion that no news is good news.
“No news is good news.” What a true statement that is, especially in a small town like Port St. Joe.  Because when news happens, believe you me, everyone will know about it, good or bad.  I’m still trying to figure out how bad my “fishing creds” were tarnished after losing a monster at the seawall a couple evenings ago. I hung a massive fish that was pulling line like crazy.  At first, he was headed out to sea which was fine, I could discreetly fight the fish with no one the wiser.  The problem began when I finally turned the fish and he started making his way back toward the marina and other fishermen.  I edged my way along the wall trying to again turn the fish, but he wasn’t having it.  At this point, my four-year-old who had been playing with his dump truck caught sight of me and began yelling, “my daddy’s got a fish, my daddy’s got a fish!”  Well now I had an audience and the audience kept growing because the boy wouldn’t shut his mouth despite my telling him to do so.  He just kept on like some deranged carny trying to lure you in to see the bearded lady.  But instead of saying, “Step right up,” he was yelling, “Daddy’s got a fish!”  So everyone quit what they were doing and were watching me.  We never saw what the monster was.  After about 15 minutes the hook, along with my dreams of glory just slipped out.
Losing fish happens to the best of us, folks. That’s why I sought grief counseling from Jake Harpe, he knows a lot about losing fish.  But he informed me that’s why we keep coming back.  And speaking of coming back, Phil Fiscella is back in this week’s report with a picture (above left) of a nice Red he caught off the beach.  It seems the Redfish bite is going strong from Indian Pass to Mexico Beach.  Phil even brought in some nice specks off Mexico Beach inlet.  I’ve been fishing the wall here the last few evenings and having a good time going for mangrove snappers.  The nice mangroves like that live bait over anything else.  I’ve been targeting them with LY minnows, but they’ll tear up a live shrimp just the same.  Whichever bait you choose you’re sure to have a good time because I’ve noticed an increased presence of Rays and Sharks that will give you a run for your money, especially if you’re fishing ultra-light gear.
Things are looking up for those heading offshore this weekend.  It looks as if the conditions will be right and the big fish have been biting.  There were several Kings caught on the buoy line, and I saw some huge Red Snapper brought into the docks.  Just check out the photo of the monsters that J.D. Dillon and Jeff Harpe brought in (above right).  Along with these species there are also big Amberjack being caught and monster Gags (Gags out of season).
There’s plenty of good fishing to be done right now in Port St. Joe.  Head into Bluewater and get what you need; I hope to see you out there!
