BlueWater Outriggers Fishing Report 5-29-2025
Offshore: Well guys and gals it was a wild and wonderful open to Red Snapper Season this year. The weather was beautiful, and ocean conditions were perfect for everyone getting a chance to go out there. Bluewater Outriggers was slammed to the gills with customers getting their gear and bait in order to take part in the fun. It was an all out marathon trying to keep up with all the squid, cigar minnows, Boston and northern mackerel and chum that you anglers were after. We made it happen though and there were plenty of good stories about coolers being filled and limits being reached. Steve Sewell, Amanda Peace and Troy Williams caught their first Snapper of the season. Congratulations guys! While Snapper has closed momentarily it will re-open on Sunday, June1 and run through July 31. That will be perfect as NOAA is indicating pretty rough seas this Friday and Saturday with waves running 2 to 4 feet. Sunday they will drop to around 2 feet and Monday is looking just right with waves 1 foot or less. That gives you a couple days to think about what you need, stop in at Bluewater Outriggers and prepare for round two of Snapper season.
Inshore fishing is still good here in the bay. I must be honest though; those doormat flounder are playing hard to get, at least in my case. Hopefully y’all are having a little better luck. I’ve noticed that the bait is plentiful anywhere I go, and I see plenty of bait balls busting as larger fish feed on them. The trout bite remains solid as I’ve not only seen pictures of them submitted to me, but yanked a few in myself this last week using smaller pinfish and croakers I caught in my net. In fact, I saw about an eight-year-old boy (Who I didn’t know from Adam) help himself to the bait I caught in my net, attach one to the back of the all-too-wrong spoon he was using and hook into an absolute lunker trout. In his excitement he called his friend over, and they both started helping themselves to the bait I caught in my net. In the middle of this chaos my 3-year-old who was busy digging for “treasure” on the sandbar, struck his foot with his plastic shovel. He was hollering as if he was the poor ol’ boy from, The Man in the Moon, and just fell under the blades of a disc harrow or something. Well, by the time I got my boy attended to and calmed down, the two kids had used every last bit of bait I had. It was unbelievable, but at least I can chuckle about it a bit in retrospection. That all happened under the Intracoastal bridge on an afternoon bite. Travis Wilkes sent me a picture of a nice trout he got towards the Cape San Blas side of the bay; it can be seen above. Little man Liam Payne even picked himself up a nice trout fishing off the point down from Salinas Park. That’s a nice fish Liam, way to go!
Freshwater: While we’ve had a good many crickets heading out of the store, it seems as if worms are the way to go, at least from my perspective. I haven’t done any freshwater fishing recently but from what I gather by talking to other customers, is that there is a good panfish bite going on. Customers have shown me photos of the bream they are catching, and they are nice ones, just right for the fryer!
That's it for this week folks. Remember to stop into Bluewater and show me some pictures of your best catch!
Hope to see you out there!
