BlueWater Outriggers Fishing Report 5-15-2025
Offshore: Well, we’ve again had one of those weeks where the weather has kept most Anglers inshore. Even fishing inshore artificial baits was a bit challenging dealing with the waves caused by the constant wind and high gusts. The good news is that NOAA is forecasting the wind to finally calm down. Thursday and Friday are still probably out for going offshore but Friday night things will calm down making Saturday Sunday and Monday look good for getting out there. Because there was not much to report on this last week, let me take some time to say this. Red Snapper season is fast approaching. The Summer Season will begin on Memorial Day weekend. There has been an influx of people coming in and asking about getting into slow-pitch jigging. It’s the new thing! Gone are the days of holding that cumbersome Senator attached to a stiff 2x4 of a rod that digs into the tender portion of your inner thigh leaving a black and blue mark for days to come. Imagine catching those monster Snapper and Grouper on a rod no bigger than your light inshore setup. We’ve just ordered such rods, available now, ahead of any tariffs, so you can affordably move in the direction the industry is going. Feel free to come in and chat with Jake Harpe or other Bluewater employees about the increasingly popular slow pitch method; Once you try it, there will be no going back.
Inshore: When it comes to inshore fishing everything has pretty much remained the same, and that’s a good thing. Nice Trout, Redfish and Flounder have continued to have a good bite. I have, however, noticed more and more anglers saying they’ve caught a bunch of flounder but they just weren’t measuring up. I have to say I’ll agree with that. Wading the intracoastal this last week I hooked plenty, but they weren’t keeper size. That wasn’t the case however for Scott Wolf, pictured above. Scott, a very nice customer and expert fisherman of the Great Lakes (trust me, he has the pictures to prove it), came into Bluewater asking the best way to go about getting a good flounder for dinner. For less than it costs to take a family out for a seafood dinner around here, I set him up with an ultralight rod, reel and the afore mentioned Z-Man Curly Tailz rig. As I was closing the store for the night my phone alerted me to a text message, and it was a picture of Scott with his new rig and a nice flounder, along with the caption, “Second Cast, Thank You So Much.” Well, we thank you Scott, and congratulations on the nice catch!
That's it for this week folks, I look forward to seeing you out there!
