BlueWater Outriggers Fishing Report 6-19-2025
While this last week proved to be a bit “sporty” offshore, it was well worth the occasional wave throwing you off balance and crashing your knees into the gunwale because the hog snappers were biting! Remember folks, the bumps and bruises will heal in time, the memories like the ones captured above will last forever. Pictured from left to right we have Rylee McCall, David Payne and Landon Eberhart who under the guidance of Captain Mike Chafin were able to find and land some absolute beauties. With no shame, fellow employee Jake Harpe and I lowered ourselves to practically begging for those numbers but were promptly given the old cold shoulder and told they were somewhere about 20 miles off the Cape. The good news is, the lunkers seen above were just a small piece of the pie; there were plenty of other Anglers that shared their photos of nice Red Snapper pushing over that 25” mark! Speaking of pie, if you want to get yourself a piece, this week could certainly be the one to do it. NOAA is forecasting very fishable seas. Today, tomorrow and Saturday waves are forecasted to be around two feet. Sunday, they drop to one foot or less and rise back up to around two on Monday. There are some slight chances of showers and thunderstorms, so be sure to check that radar before heading out.
Despite the poor results I’ve been having wading the waters underneath the Tapper Bridge, I’ve continued to fish there about every evening from 5:00-6:30. It’s a very convenient location for me and it allows me to do my favorite thing, fishing, while my three year old burns off some of the massive reserves of energy he seems to have. He digs a hole that fills with water and finds in the neighborhood of about 300 hermit crabs to put in the hole. Meanwhile I throw the net and toss out a live pinfish, croaker or glass minnow. I put good bait in good spots, but nothing's been happening. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll get one every now and then, a trout, undersized flounder, ladyfish or the ever so annoying catfish, but it is far from being a “hotspot” as they say. One gentleman may disagree with me saying that; I watched at a distance as he hauled in a black drum that was massive. But as a childhood celebrity crush of mine, Shania Twain might say, “That Don’t Impress Me Much.” To get those impressive fish you need to head to the back of the bay. Again, I was able to head to the Cape side of the bay while the boy was in school, and again I found the trout, one after another on a light green soft plastic. What is that noise? Is that Shania again? She’s saying, “Don’t Be Stupid!” Head over towards the Eagle Harbor area, find some grass around 4-6 ft deep and throw a fluke bait with a 1/8oz jighead and see what happens!
That’s all for this week folks! I love seeing pictures of your good catches so be sure to stop by Bluewater Outriggers and share your photos with me. Good luck this week; I hope to see you out there!
