Port St. Joe Fishing Report 5-8-202
OFFSHORE: Captain Jason Williams of Chasin Dreams Charters reports Beeliners and Triggerfish have been good in 80 to 100 feet of water using cut Mackerel for bait. A few Cobia are starting to show up so keep a rod handy. The Grouper bite has been great using live bait and butterfly jigs. Red Snapper season opens June 1. INSHORE: Triple Tail are starting to show up in the bay, a live shrimp under a popping cork will do the trick. For Trout and Redfish use the same technique ,for artificial lures try the gold spoons or top water plugs at low light, such as Zara Spooks. For you Tarpon guys and gals, they are starting to show up on the beaches and the tip of the Cape. Try using small male blue crabs about the size of a credit card. Alewives are schooling everywhere on the bay, throw a jig or a top water into the school. It's a mixed bag so you'll catch just about anything. Captain Lee Thompson of Shallow Seas Charters got his client on a gator trout. She was a big female full of eggs that measured 26 1/2 inches she was caught and released Congratulations Lee. The Pompano bite has been off the hook, using fish bites and fish gum we carry both of them. Sand fleas have been good as well. We carry those as well as flea rakes.
FRESHWATER: Rivers are still falling and the Shell Cracker and Bream have been hitting worms and crickets as well as Beetle Spins and rooster. Largemouth have been doing well on 6 inch zoom watermelon red lizards As well as the bandit crawfish, red or orange in the 100 and 200 series.
