Osprey Saltwater Series Prey-4000 Spinning Reel SS4000

The Osprey Saltwater Series Spinning Reel is the inshore saltwater angler's dream reel. With our Quiet Dry Roller System, Reinforced Gears, and Dual Sealed C-Wave Drag System, the Osprey Saltwater Series Spinning Reel was designed to withstand the harsh saltwater conditions found from Texas to Florida, Florida to Maine, and other coastal fisheries across the globe.

We've introduced a 4000 size reel that are both perfect for inshore guides, tournament anglers, or weekend warriors looking to catch redfish, snook, trout, jacks, snapper, etc... while fishing Florida's awesome inshore fisheries. The 4000 can be used with live baits or artificial baits, offers more drag capacity (up to 26 lbs!), boasts an over sealed reel frame and body (because we hate corrosion and noisy reels too), comes standard with a braid ready spool, and has a fantastic new EVA foam handle that we believe is suited for technical anglers and less-experienced fish wranglers alike.

  • Max Drag: 26 lbs
  • 7+1 Stainless Steel Ball Bearings
  • Aluminum Body
  • Carbon Macromolecule Tech Rotor
  • CNC Power Handle with EVA Knob
  • Carbon Fiber Disc Drag System
  • Gear Ratio: 5.2:1

Osprey SS 4000 thoughts after 1st use

The first thought I had after spooling the reel was that I wish it didnt take so much braid to fill the spool. I backed it with mono and was still amazed how much braid it took. This reel is designed for a fish that is going to take some serious line. I fish inshore so I really dont need such a deep spool. But, that is the only gripe I have and its not much of one. The drag is nice and line comes off the reel easily when a big fish makes a run. My first fish with this reel was a 29 in. redfish that was every bit of 14 lbs. Had no issue handling this fish whatsoever. The reel was great and performed to expectations. Overall I am happy and will add the 3000 to my collection soon.
